Today, Apple held an event to announce the launch of their latest tablet offering. They also announced an update to iOS 5 and Apple TV. But the main dish today was certainly the new iPad. It seems as if Apple has decided to do away with numbering so instead of the “iPad 3” it’s known as the “New iPad”. The New iPad has two major upgrades. We will start with the new retina display which measures in at 2048 x 1536. That is a million more pixels than full HD television. We look forward to getting our hands on it because our monitors and televisions can’t do the new display justice. The other major upgrade is the processor. The A5X chip offers quad-core graphics which puts it in the class with Nvidia’s Tegra 3 processor. Apple also upgraded the camera and offered 4G LTE support. After taking in this new offering, we have to say that although the New iPad is cool and we would love to have one, this seems like a half-step forward. We know that every release can’t be earth shattering, but with Apple we have come to expect it. Towards the end of the event, we were teased with a slide saying that there was more to come in 2012. We will keep our eyes peeled so we don’t miss anything from Apple in the coming months.
